Our 50th anniversary makeover project consisted of four parts. Our goal was, as much as was practical, to complete each one in order. We also were determined to complete the parts of the project on a pay-as-you-go basis. As we approach our actual 50th anniversary date, here is the project status.
Stage One; final details being completed
The first part, the enlargement and upgrading of the kitchen has been nearly completed, all except for a few details. The biggest part of the project was moving the hallway so that the kitchen could be enlarged, making room for a commercial sized refrigerator which is now in place. We also purchased a large commercial stove, re-tiled the floor, added a venting fan, enclosed the telephone access, and painted the room. Work continues on replacement of the existing sink, adding a second sink, and minor countertop repairs. We are thankful to Dave Cremeans who did so much to make this project happen. Cindy Centner, who chaired the kitchen committee, deserves our applause as well.
Stage Two; nearly complete
The second part, replacement of the sanctuary carpet and accompanying renovations of the sanctuary is also nearly complete. Our praise team and children and teen groups are enjoying using the flat platform. The new vestibule is so much roomier. We have noticed that moving the entry door to the center helps us focus immediately on the cross and seems so much more natural than the off-center entry we had before. The new golden-brown carpet looks so much been than the worn and torn old one and it contributes a richness of its own. Adding whitespace to the front and increasing the light fixtures’ lumen output has brightened the sanctuary immensely. All together, the sanctuary pleases the eye with a new look and a much brighter feel. The only detail remaining is finishing the vestibule lighting. Our thanks to Shaun Harrington who did so much to organize everything and make it all come together and to Brad LeVan who chaired the carpet committee. Both of the first two stages are paid for in full and funds are on hand to finish remaining details. We are praising God for what he has enabled us to accomplish together. Our thanks too to all the volunteers who worked to make it all happen.
Stage Three - now underway
The third part, the replacement of the original flood lighting in the sanctuary is now in process. Funds are being raised, and a committee has been formed to plan the details of this work. Shaun Harrington is chairing this committee. In general, the idea of this stage is to replace the floodlights, which scatter light on the screen, do not have convenient control locations, and are not capable of color. The idea is to install undated fixtures that will greatly increase the capability of the sanctuary lighting for worship services, drama skits and programs, and to add color capability in the process. This will move our lighting into the 21st century and be expandable into the future.
Stage Four - for the future
The fourth part of the project will involve driveway and parking lot improvements. It will await the availability of funds. The scope will be matched to the funds available when the time comes.
