Husband Prayers
Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011There was a time that my husband was not who you see today. I was frustrated, angry, hurt, bitter, and tempted in every way to seek love somewhere else. But as I resolved before God all the above, I became determined to do things God’s way and not mine or the worlds. God has performed a miracle in our marriage. It’s not perfect, but it works for us. Each home is different with different needs. Let God build your marriage and home to HIS specifications.
I will warn you before you begin this journey of seeking God’s best. One, you MUST believe that God IS and that He IS a Rewarder of those who DILIGENTLY seek Him. And second, be ready to do what God asks of you. I am going to give you an example that may seem silly, but was VITAL to my ability to trust God in my marriage.
On one particularly frustrating and aggravating day, (there were many of those)I began to stew on thoughts toward my husband that were not godly. Things like, “If he could just do this or that”, or “why can’t he see what he’s doing to this relationship” or “If I leave he’ll understand what he’s missing out on.” These are the “mild” thoughts. As I sat in my living room looking into my dining room, God spoke to my heart to make a pretty flower arrangement and runner for my table. (I told you it sounded silly
) I thought, “What difference will that make? He won’t even notice it. And besides, I don’t have any money to spend on that.”
Long story short, I found some scrap fabric in my closet, and $5 stashed in my wallet. I “explained” the finances to God but went to the store anyway. I found the rest of what I would need to fix my table setting for $4.99, went home, did the work and stood back to admire the project. I FELT like WOW! The whole time I was doing this, guess what happened to those thoughts? They were gone. But soon they returned. “He won’t notice. You spent money and time and he’ll walk in the house his miserable old self.”
Time for the man to enter his castle. Yep you guessed it. As I stood in the doorway waiting for his response, he walked to the couch, took off his boots, dumped his equipment and asked, “What’s for dinner?” in his grumpy tone. I went to my room and began my rampage on God. “SEE, I TOLD You he wouldn’t even notice, etc!!!!!!” As I settled down, I again heard God speak to me and this is what He said, “I didn’t tell you to do that for Mark. I told you to do it for you. How did you feel when you were busy? How did you feel when things looked good? What were you thinking when you were doing something productive?” I had to admit that God was right. There were times when God would remind me to brush my teeth before Mark came home or run a brush through my hair or put some perfume on. These may seem silly, but I have come to KNOW that when God says it, there’s a REASON. Just do it.
I became determined that when I had ANY down time, I would search the Word for me and my husband. For me, I got to spend time in the Word and out of that time came God’s Words for my husband. See I had been praying what I wanted for Mark. But what I wanted was not necessarily the best for Mark. So if I was REALLY seeking GOD’S best in Mark’s life, I needed to be praying God’s results for Mark from God’s Word.
I have enclosed some prayers I have prayed for my husband. I did not leave them laying around for him to “stumble” upon but kept these in a place that Mark would not see. And I prayed. I continue to pray today some of these same prayers but of course, as he grows, my prayers change (according to God’s leading and not my own). So I encourage you today, when you are tempted to “show him what he’s missing,” or you might go through the “I should have said this or done that”, tell your thoughts to “SHUT UP” choose to pick up your Bible instead and say, “OK Lord, what do You want for my man today?” Keep it between you and God. If you want God’s results, do things God’s way. I hope this helps you and encourages you to keep hope alive for God’s hope NEVER disappoints!
Where ever there is a blank, insert your husband’s name and then be willing to do whatever God tells you to do.
Prayer (1)
Oh God, You are my God and early will I seek You. Father, today I come to you believing that You are and that You are a Rewarder of those who diligently seek you. I will be diligent because Your Word says that the sincere, fervent prayer of a person who is right with you causes things to happen.
Therefore, in faith, believing, I step out of my comfort zone and stand in the gap for my husband. I realize that to my physical eyes, _____________’s activities are not pleasing to you. I also realize the enemy of our souls uses these things to discourage me and as a distraction from your eternal purpose in _____________’s life. Therefore, with ALL authority given me by Christ, and as a joint heir, I call those things that be not as though they were. I realize that it is not by my might or power but by your Spirit, Your words WILL come to pass. For you remind me that You watch over Your word to perform it in our lives.
Father, you tell me that by my mouth, I bring blessing or cursing, the power of my tongue brings life or death. My tongue brings to course the things of nature. I renounce anything I have spoken that is contrary to Your Word of truth and ask You to forgive me and forgive _____________. For ultimately, all sin is sin against You. Through ignorance I have done things the world’s way and I don’t like the results I have gotten. Therefore, I choose today to do things Your way, Lord. I ask you to give me utterance and unction for _____________ so I will be praying not my will but Your will be done.
Though he has rejected You and Your ways, I declare, according to Your Word, You have called ____________ out of darkness and into your marvelous light. ___________ is chosen by You for Your kingdom glory. You call him peculiar and child. By grace through the cross You sacrificed Your Son for _____________ revealing the love and compassion You have for him. Thank you Jesus that You died for _______________ that he might live an abundant life. Oh Lord, bring him to the knowledge of this and of who You are. Show ___________ your love from which he cannot be separated.
Now as You have directed, from your living and powerful word, I call those things that be not as though they were. Lord, thank you for calling _____________ out of darkness and into the light of your glorious kingdom. __________no longer loves the darkness more than light, but is drawn to the light because the light lives in me. My husband DOES truth, therefore, he comes to the light of your word and his deeds are made known. ___________ will accomplish what You want. Lord, open his eyes and turn him from the darkness into the light, from the power of Satan to You, Mighty God. Thank you that _________ has received forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Christ.
I do not cease to give thanks for my husband. Oh Father of glory, give _____________ the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of who You are. May the eyes of ____________ understanding be enlighted that he may know what is the hope of his calling and what is the riches of the glory of your inheritance in the saints. May he know what is the exceeding greatness of your power to him, according to the working of Your mighty power. I pray for conviction upon ______________ heart of sin, that he would seek righteousness and truth. Spirit of God, convince ____________ of the sin in his heart that he may go forward and be established, rooted and grounded in the truth of your Word. May Your truth set _____________ absolutely free of sin today!
Lord, test me and try me. If there is any wicked way in me, reprove me now that the intentions of my heart would be pleasing to You. I choose this day to stand in the gap for ___________, not selfishly, but sacrificially because I believe the transformation in _______________ will bombard the gates of hell and give glory and honor to YOUR NAME. Father I ask you to forgive me for the way I have spoken and behaved in the past because of my broken heart. Lord teach me your ways. Renew a right spirit in me. Make my heart contrite not because of the emotional neglect and physical abuse, but because of your great love that brought me to the throne room of grace to receive mercy.
Thank you Jesus for your life in me and for seeing me faithful and calling me to be in service to you. What you say you will do you will do. You said it, I believe it, I receive it, that settles it!! Thank you Lord for hearing my prayers. So Be It!

Thank you God that because of the great compassion of Jesus ____________ is a fellow heir and partaker of Your promise of salvation. That’s how it is in heaven, that’s how I pray it on earth.
Sinner=one who misses the mark; or as a traveler who leaves a familiar road and takes twisted paths that cause him to lose his way. In the Greek, the word denotes one devoted to sin by choice, a transgressor who’s thoughts, words and deeds are contrary to the eternal laws of God.
James 5:20 Let him know that he which converts the sinner, shall save a soul from death and shall hide or cover a multitude of sins.
Stand in faith believing and remember, this is not about you . . . .it is about God.
